The Barbados Royals defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 8 runs in the 2023 Massy Women’s Premier League (WCPL) final.
The Royals put in to bat first. They got off to a good start, with Gaby Lewis scoring 21 off 18 balls. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals in the middle overs.
Rashada Williams was the second top scorer for the Royals, making 36 off 23 balls. She shared a 108-run partnership with Hayley Matthews, who made 82 off 59 balls.
The Warriors bowlers were led by Shabnim Ismail, who took 4 wickets for 30 runs.
The Warriors were chasing a target of 169, and they got off to a good start, with Shemaine Campbelle scoring 47 off 35 balls. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals in the middle overs.
Natasha McLean also chipped in for the Warriors, making 28 off 17 balls. But these runs weren’t enough.
The Royals bowlers were led by Amanda-Jade Wellington, who took 4 wickets for 23 runs. Captain Hayley Matthews also picked up two wickets for her team.
This is the second time that the Barbados Royals have won the WCPL.
