Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who is known for his relentless dedication to fitness and meticulous dietary choices, has embarked on a tour of India for the ODI World Cup 2023, accompanied by a personal chef. Stoinis is adhering to a strict ketogenic diet, which is characterized by its high-fat and low-carb nature. Among his preferred dishes, as mentioned in recent reports, is baked oats enriched with protein.

The chef accompanying Stoinis on his journey is Velton Saldanha, originally from Mumbai and skilled in the art of French cuisine. Their culinary partnership began during this year’s Indian Premier League, thanks to a recommendation from fellow Lucknow Super Giants player, KL Rahul. Saldanha brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously worked in esteemed fine-dining establishments in Chicago and New York.

Stoinis revealed,

“Quite a few of the Indian boys do it, that’s where I got the idea. I’ve always been quite strict with my food and all that stuff in my preparation.”

As part of his dietary regimen, Stoinis has eliminated items like garlic naan and instead embraced gluten-free banana bread and shepherd’s pie with roasted cauliflower mash. A culinary masterpiece that has emerged from their collaboration is a roast butter chicken, fusing Saldanha’s French culinary training with his Indian heritage.

While the Australian squad already has its own chef responsible for meal preparation during their travels, Stoinis is taking an extra step in his relentless pursuit of peak performance. He firmly believes that investing in a personal chef is a crucial part of his preparation. Despite his financial commitment, Stoinis has faced some inconsistency in this tournament, notably missing the opening match due to hamstring and quad issues.

Stoinis has made significant changes to his diet to achieve his peak performance. He relies on baked oats as a cornerstone of his meticulously curated diet, which Saldanha might even consider branding as ‘Stoinis Oats’ by the end of the World Cup. This innovative approach to nutrition and performance exemplifies Stoinis’s commitment to his craft, setting him apart as a dedicated athlete striving for excellence in every aspect of his game.
