Islamabad United continued their dominance over Karachi Kings, maintaining an impeccable 8-0 winning streak against their rivals. The last time Karachi emerged victorious against Islamabad was four years ago, highlighting the extent of United’s stronghold over the Kings. In PSL 2024, Karachi Kings suffered defeats in both encounters against Islamabad United, further solidifying the latter’s supremacy.
The match held significance for both teams as it had the potential to shape the playoffs scenario. Islamabad United’s victory propelled them to the second position on the points table, while Karachi Kings found themselves second from the bottom with six points.
With Islamabad now standing at nine points, Kings face an uphill battle. If Karachi lose both of their remaining games, it would virtually guarantee Islamabad’s qualification along with Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. However, if Islamabad lose their final match and Karachi win both of theirs, Karachi could secure qualification with ten points, edging past Islamabad by a point.
Currently, Peshawar and Gladiators also sit at nine points, occupying the third and fourth positions on the table, respectively, with slight differences in Net Run Rate. Karachi must defeat Lahore Qalandars and Zalmi in their remaining games. Additionally, they will rely on United losing to table-toppers Multan Sultans and hope for Gladiators to suffer a defeat at the hands of Lahore on March 10th, thereby preventing them from gaining another two points.
In essence, Kings’ path to qualification hinges on a combination of United, Gladiators, and Zalmi losing their remaining encounters, or at least one or two of them losing their remaining games while Kings themselves emerge victorious in all their matches. As the race intensifies, Karachi’s fate in PSL 2024 hangs in the balance, contingent upon several factors playing out in their favor.
