T20 World Cup

Qualification scenario for Semi-Final becomes complex in Super-Eight Group 2

With West Indies finding a big win of 9 wickets with 55 balls remaining against USA in today’s match, the qualification scenario is still complex for all the teams with every teams in the race with one match each to be played for the teams.

South Africa have won two matches from two matches with West Indies and England winning one match each from two matches while USA is still to find a win after two matches.

South Africa standing tall with 4 points in the points table is most likely to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 but they still need to await match results of either own or other teams to know about their chances of qualifications.

West Indies who won the match against USA by 9 wickets in today’s game is at the second position of the points table with 2 points and 1.814 NRR. With West Indies being able to get a maximum of 4 points by the end of the Super-Eight Group 2 matches, they can still qualify to the semi-finals with 2 points if USA win over England by a margin not enough to beat the NRR of West Indies in the points table.

England is at the third position of the points table with their last match to be played against USA. While they can still qualify to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with 2 points but in the another calculation, they will still have to depend on NRR with four points in hand if they win over USA and West Indies win over South Africa as three teams will have 4 points each in this scenario.

USA finding a win over England in their last match of the Super Eight Group 2 can qualify to the semi-finals if South Africa win over West Indies by a big margin with NRR of USA being up the West Indies. However, USA is the least favourite of the scenario.
