Profile

Initially doubted, Ravindra Jadeja silenced critics with stellar performances, earning a spot among India's top spinners. In October 2019, he became the fastest left-arm bowler to achieve 200 Test wickets. Six years prior, he was the first Indian since Anil Kumble to top the ICC ODI bowling rankings. He attracted a remarkable bid of $2 million in the 2012 IPL.

Despite being overshadowed by fellow spinner R Ashwin, Jadeja often outperformed him in favorable conditions. Known for his speed and fielding prowess, he evolved into a crucial lower-order batsman. His signature swordsman celebration followed many of his significant innings against top teams.

His notable achievements include leading wicket-taker in the 2013 Champions Trophy and a crucial unbeaten 33 in the final. Jadeja's stamina and strength enable him to bowl tirelessly, capitalizing on any pitch assistance. His bowling highlights include impressive performances against Australia and South Africa, and a dominant series against England in 2016-17.

Throughout his career, Jadeja faced challenges, including a serious shoulder injury and being dropped from the squad. His resilience saw him return stronger each time. He overcame a tough childhood in Jamnagar and a ban from the IPL for negotiating his salary. In the IPL, he is synonymous with Chennai Super Kings, taking over 100 wickets in nine seasons and briefly captaining the team in 2022.

IPL Highlights

  • Four-time IPL champion: once with Rajasthan Royals and thrice with Chennai Super Kings.
  • Player of the Match in CSK's 2023 win, hitting a four off the last ball.
  • Nicknamed "Rockstar" by Shane Warne in 2008.
  • CSK's second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL.
  • Stepped down as CSK captain mid-season in 2022.
  • Holds the record for most runs in an over in the IPL: 36 off Harshal Patel in 2021.
