Big Blow to Islamabad United Ahead of Eliminator as Alex Hales Leaves

Alex Hales leaves Islamabad United, as confirmed by the franchise. The English batter departs ahead of the crucial Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 Eliminator vs Karachi Kings. In a statement released by the franchise, it was clarified that his decision is due to a pre-agreed personal commitment, despite initially being available for the full tournament.

According to the team, the original PSL 10 schedule would have allowed Hales to participate through to the final, set for May 18. However, a reshuffle in fixtures extended the playoffs beyond that date, overlapping with the wedding of Hales’ best friend in Spain, a commitment he had clearly communicated to Islamabad United at the time of signing.

Alex Hales Opens Up as He Leaves Islamabad United

“Alex remains a valued part of the Islamabad United family,” the franchise said in its official clarification. “We thank him for his professionalism and contributions this season.” Hales echoed those sentiments in a heartfelt farewell message on Instagram, stating, “It’s always a pleasure playing for IU—this franchise feels like family to me. I’ve loved being part of the group again this season and wish the boys all the best for the rest of the playoffs. I’ll be cheering the team on from Spain!”

Alex Hales leaves Islamabad United after featuring in just two matches this season, though he made a strong impression. In his comeback game on May 19 against Karachi Kings, Hales smashed an explosive 88 off 35 balls, laced with six fours and eight sixes, at a staggering strike rate of 251.42. His power-packed performance helped Islamabad post a commanding total of 251-5.

However, fortunes turned quickly in Qualifier 1 against the Quetta Gladiators. Hales was dismissed for a second-ball duck as United fell short in a 210-run chase, eventually being bowled out for 179. The loss pushed them into Eliminator, where they will now face the winner of the Eliminator between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars for a place in the May 25 final.
