Ruturaj Gaikwad Reflects on CSK’s Performance Despite Competitive Total

Ruturaj Gaikwad interview

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad offered a measured assessment after the match, highlighting both positives and areas of concern. He believed the team had posted a competitive total, considering the nature of the pitch and ground conditions.

Gaikwad explained that the surface offered assistance to pacers, with slower deliveries gripping effectively. Combined with large boundary dimensions, he felt the score was strong enough to challenge the opposition under normal circumstances.

Discussing the Impact Player strategy, Gaikwad revealed that the team opted for a balanced bowling attack featuring three seamers alongside two wrist-spinners. However, an off-day for the spinners proved costly, as they were unable to apply sustained pressure during crucial phases.

He admitted that while there were moments of good execution, the bowling unit lacked consistency overall. According to Gaikwad, the team failed to build pressure when it mattered most. At one stage, the required run rate had climbed to 11, and a few tight overs could have pushed it further to 12 or 13, but that momentum never materialized.

Despite the loss, Gaikwad pointed out several positives, particularly in the batting department. He praised Ayush and Shivam for their impressive performances, noting that the team showed confidence and intent with the bat.

Reflecting on his own innings, Gaikwad said his plan was to spend time at the crease due to the challenging nature of the pitch. He aimed to accelerate later but was disappointed to lose his wicket at a crucial moment.

Looking ahead, he emphasized that while the batting unit is in a good place, the bowling department needs improvement. His comments underline CSK’s focus on refining execution and maintaining pressure in future matches.
