Hong Kong clean sweeps Japan in Women’s East Asia Cup 2022

Hong Kong won another match against Japan in the Women’s East Asia Cup 2022 to clean sweep Japan in the four-match tournament.

Batting first, after Japan won the toss and elected to field first, Hong Kong Women was able to make 101 runs losing seven wickets in the first inning. Natasha Miles, Yasmin Daswani and Ruchitha Venkatesh are the only three players from Hong Kong Women to cross 20 runs each batting for Hong Kong. Natasha made 23 off 17 balls, Yasmin made 20 off 28 balls and Ruchitha made 23 off 26 balls. Shanzeen Shahzad is the only other player from Hong Kong to score in double-digits in the game who made 14 runs off 26 balls.

Japan Women used 7 of their players to bowl against Hong Kong in today’s game. Ahilya Chandel, Shimako Kato, Ayumi Fujikawa, Shizuka Miyaji, Mai Yanagida and Meg Ogawa from the side of Japan Women picked a wicket each for their team.

Chasing the target of 102 runs in 20 overs, Japan Women played till the last ball of the inning to tie the match. Japan made 101 runs off 20 overs with the loss of 7 wickets as Hong Kong had in the first inning. Erika Oda, Ahilya Chandel and Mai Yanagida from Japan Women were able to make double-digit runs for their team. Erika made 12 runs off 22 balls, Ahilya made 26 runs off 28 balls and Mai made 18 runs off 16 balls. No other players from Japan played in double-digit in today’s game.

Hong Kong used 6 players from its team to bowl against Japan in today’s game. Maryam took the highest of 2 wickets for Hong Kong in today’s game. Betty Chan, Mariko Hill, Ruchitha Venkatesh and Tammy Chu are the other players from Hong Kong to take a wicket each bowling for Hong Kong in today’s game.

After the game was tied, the game entered into the super-overs. Japan Women bat first in the super overs and made 4 runs losing two wickets. Hong Kong upon chasing the target of 5 runs in the super overs made 5 runs off the first 3 balls and won the game against Japan.

Hong Kong won all four games of the tournament to win the Women’s East Asia Cup 2022.
