On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Cricket Team made history by achieving a momentous 3-0 sweep over the world champions England in a T20I series. The third and final T20I of the three-match contest saw Bangladesh defeat England by 16 runs, resulting in England’s first whitewash across formats by Bangladesh. This was also the first time that England had traveled to Bangladesh for a bilateral T20I series. Litton Das played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s victory, smashing 73 runs off 57 balls in the third T20I.
The cricket world has been praising Bangladesh for their historic win, and many reactions have been pouring in. Bangladesh won the first and second T20Is by 6 and 4 wickets respectively. England’s last whitewash in a T20I series was in 2014, when they lost by 3-0 against Australia on their home turf. Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh team has been in excellent form at home, having defeated India in an ODI series 2-1 last December 2022, and Australia and New Zealand ahead of the T20I World Cup 2022.
In the 3rd T20I match, England won the toss and decided to field first. They managed to restrict Bangladesh to a total of 158/2, with Litton Das scoring a half-century and Najmul Hussain Shanto contributing 47 runs. England’s only wicket-takers were Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid, who took a scalp each.
In response, England were 100/1 at one stage with captain Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan batting brilliantly. Buttler was run out by Mehidy Hasan in the 14th over, and England suffered a bizarre batting collapse, managing only 142/6 in 20 overs. Bangladesh’s bowlers put on an impressive display, taking six wickets between them.
