The inaugural season of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 has seen its share of triumphs and struggles. While Mumbai Indians have been dominant, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been facing a tough time. Out of six matches, RCB has managed to win only one. However, in their latest match against UP Warriorz, RCB claimed their first victory of the season thanks to an outstanding knock of 46 runs by Kanika Ahuja during their run chase, under the leadership of Smriti Mandhana.

Ellyse Perry, the Australian cricketer, delivered an impressive bowling performance by taking three wickets and conceding only 16 runs in RCB’s first innings. Perry made a new record in women’s T20 cricket as she bowled the fastest delivery ever recorded at 130.5 kmph while bowling to Sophie Ecclestone of UPW. This surpassed the previous record of 128 kmph held by Shabnim Ismail.

Despite the win, RCB is still in a difficult position. They are currently in fourth place in the WPL standings with just two points from six games. Gujarat Giants share the same number of points as RCB but have played one game less. RCB will play their next games against Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians, and they will need to win both matches to have any chance of making it to the playoffs.

However, even if they win these matches, RCB will still need other teams’ results to go in their favor. The match against Gujarat Giants could give them their second win of the season, but their final league stage game against Mumbai Indians, who are unbeaten this season, will be a tough challenge for RCB.
