The Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Jamaica Tallawahs by 7 wickets in the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
The Warriors won the toss and chose to field first. They got off to a good start, dismissing Alex Hales in the first over. Brandon King played a good innings, scoring 52 off 32 balls, but the rest of the Tallawahs batsmen struggled to score runs. They were restricted to 152-5 after 20 overs.
The Warriors’ openers, Saim Ayub and Matthew Nandu, gave them a good start in the chase. They put on 112 runs for the first wicket before Nandu was dismissed for 37. Ayub continued to score runs and brought up his half-century off 34 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 85, but the Warriors cruised to victory with 9 balls to spare.
Ayub was the star of the show for the Warriors, scoring 85 off 53 balls. He hit 5 fours and five sixes in his innings. Nandu also made a good contribution with 34 off 23 balls.
For the Tallawahs, Chris Green, Salman Irshad, and Shamar Springer picked one wicket each.
This win has ensured the Warriors a spot in Qualifier 1. They will face the second-placed team in the table after the group stage.
