Lilly Mills has signed on for two more seasons with the Perth Scorchers, a key pillar of their bowling attack. The off-spinner has been a revelation since joining the Scorchers from Brisbane Heat ahead of WBBL|07, taking 31 wickets at 14.96 with a best of 4-25 in 28 matches.
Mills’ combination with fellow spinner Alana King has been a weapon for Perth over the past two seasons, with the pair striking up a fruitful partnership.
Mills was excited to stay with the Scorchers, speaking highly of the welcoming team environment at the Club, and the closeness of the playing group. She said that the feeling within the group was super positive and a great environment to be around, so it was a straightforward decision for her to stay and be part of the group moving forward.
Mills had a breakout season in WBBL|08, collecting 15 wickets at 17.26, including 3-9 against Melbourne Renegades in Moe. She said that she had been proud of her consistency over the past two seasons, and she thought that had come from clarity in her role and the trust Soph (Devine) had in her. She said that she hoped to keep playing her role, which would lead to further team success.
With a great mix of local and international talent, highlighted by the recruitment of experienced duo Sophie Devine and Amy Jones, Mills believed the Scorchers were well placed to enjoy sustained success.
She said that their group had been really settled over the past two years, and she thought that gave them a great platform to build trust within the group, which would hopefully lead to plenty of wins for them this summer. She said that they were disappointed with how they finished last year, but the group was really confident that their best cricket could match with the best teams in the competition.
The Scorchers have four local list spots and one international spot left to fill.
