Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday.
Bangladesh opted to field first and bundled out Afghanistan for just 156 runs, thanks to a brilliant bowling performance from Shakib Al Hasan (3/25) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (3/30).
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (47) and Ibrahim Zadran (22) provided Afghanistan with a decent start, but they were dismissed in quick succession. Rahmat Shah (18) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (18) tried to rebuild the innings, but the Bangladesh bowlers kept chipping away at wickets.
Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 156 in 37.2 overs.
Bangladesh chased down the target with ease, losing just four wickets. Najmul Hossain Shanto (59*) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (57) put on a 97-run partnership for the third wicket to lay the foundation for the victory.
Shakib Al Hasan (14) also made a useful contribution.
Bangladesh reached the target in 34.4 overs and won the match by six wickets.
This is a great start to the tournament for Bangladesh, while Afghanistan will be looking to bounce back in their next match.
