The excitement is building as South Africa gears up for the second edition of its premier T20 cricket league, SA20 2024. The tournament, set to kick off on January 10, 2024, promises a whirlwind of cricketing action, captivating fans until its grand finale on February 10.
SA20 2024 venues
Spread across six iconic venues – Newlands, Centurion Park, Kingsmead, St. George’s Park, Wanderers, and Boland Park – the league will showcase the prowess of six dynamic teams. Defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings will set the stage ablaze in the opening match at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
SA20 2024 teams
The six teams participating in SA20 2024 are Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. What adds a unique twist to the league is that all these teams are owned by prominent Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, adding an extra layer of competition and flair.
SA20 2024 format
The league format features teams playing five home and five away games, ensuring a balanced and competitive season. The top four teams at the conclusion of the league stage will advance to the playoffs, with the first two teams playing Qualifier 1 and the third and fourth teams facing off in the Eliminator.
The stakes are high in the playoffs – the loser of the Eliminator bids farewell to the tournament, while the winner moves on to Qualifier 2. The victor of Qualifier 1 secures a spot in the final, while the defeated team gets another chance in Qualifier 2. The winner of Qualifier 2 earns the coveted ticket to the final, creating a thrilling journey to the championship.
