Namibia Cricket has marked a historic milestone by announcing the inception of central contracts for its women’s team, a groundbreaking move unveiled on March 26th. Ten coveted professional contracts were conferred upon Capricorn Eagles during a ceremonious event held at the esteemed Namibia Cricket Ground, following negotiations and signings that transpired in February 2024.

This landmark initiative positions Namibia Cricket as the pioneering sporting body in the nation to institute central contracts for both its men’s and women’s national teams, symbolizing a profound leap forward in fostering gender inclusivity and equity within the cricketing sphere.

The roster of recipients for these prestigious central contracts comprises esteemed names such as Kayleen Green, Sune Wittmann, Arrasta Diergaardt, Edelle van Zyl, Bianca Manuel, Irene van Zyl, Wilka Mwatile, Mekelaye Mwatile, Naomi Benjamin, and Saima Tuhadeleni, emblematic of the burgeoning talent and dedication prevalent within Namibia’s women’s cricketing fraternity.

In the realm of T20 International cricket, the Namibia women’s national team currently holds the 17th position in the ICC rankings which is also their best-ever. Johan Muller, the CEO of Cricket Namibia, lauded this monumental achievement, expressing profound pride in the professionalization of the women’s game. Muller articulated,

“For the first time, we have been able to professionalize the women’s game. This is a significant moment for sports in the country. It’s the first time ladies have been signed on contracts where cricket is their occupation. Ten ladies now have the opportunity to support their households by pursuing their passion. We want to thank Capricorn Group and everyone involved.”

This historic feat underscores the remarkable trajectory of the Namibia women’s cricket team, which attained ICC status in 2018. Since then, the team has showcased their mettle in 72 T20 International matches, emerging triumphant in 44 encounters,
