Lucknow Super Giants’ campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been dealt a blow as their player Shivam Mavi has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to injury. The exact nature of Mavi’s injury remained undisclosed initially, sparking speculation among fans and pundits alike. However, subsequent reports revealed that the 25-year-old fast bowler suffered a rib injury, although the franchise is yet to confirm the details officially.
Mavi, who was yet to make an appearance in the IPL 2024 season, expressed his disappointment in a video shared by Lucknow Super Giants on their social media platforms. The cricketer lamented missing out on the opportunity to represent his team and contribute on the field due to the untimely injury. Despite the setback, Mavi emphasized the importance of mental strength for a cricketer in overcoming such challenges and making a successful comeback to the sport.
“I will miss [the tournament] a lot. I had come here after an injury and had thought I would play matches for my team and do well. But unfortunately, I will have to leave because I have suffered an injury.
“A cricketer has to be mentally strong for this. If you have an injury, you need to see what you have to do to make a comeback, what things you need to take care of.”
The injury comes as a setback for Lucknow Super Giants, who acquired Mavi for a significant sum of INR 6.4 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. With a promising seam-bowling roster comprising players like Matt Henry, Shamar Joseph, Mohsin Khan, and others, the franchise will now need to consider naming a replacement for Mavi to bolster their bowling lineup.
As of now, Lucknow Super Giants sit at the fourth position in the IPL 2024 standings, having secured two victories out of three matches played so far.
