India’s probable T20 World Cup 2024 squad is shaping up with no surprises expected, as Virat Kohli is likely to secure his spot. Kohli’s performance in IPL 2024, where he currently holds the orange cap as the leading run-scorer, has strengthened his position. He recently made a comeback in the T20I series against Afghanistan after a long gap since the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal against England.

Rohit Sharma is set to lead the squad, but there is still uncertainty regarding the wicketkeeping spot. While reports suggest Rishabh Pant’s return, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul have also performed well in IPL, with only minor differences in their run tally – 276 and 286, respectively. Both players operate at the top order.

Among the batters, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh are in contention alongside Rohit, Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shubman Gill may also earn a spot. Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead the pace attack, supported by Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, with the search for another pacer ongoing. Kuldeep Yadav is likely to be the lone specialist spinner, complemented by spin-bowling all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Hardik Pandya may feature as the fast-bowling all-rounder.

While Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma have performed well, the BCCI may opt to try them in bilateral series before considering them for the World Cup squad directly. The selection committee is set to meet on April 28 or 29, with skipper Sharma also attending the meeting.
