Mayank Yadav, the promising fast bowler for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is facing a significant setback in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. It’s highly probable that he will miss the remainder of the tournament due to an abdominal injury. However, a glimmer of hope remains for his return if LSG manage to secure a spot in the playoffs.
The severity of Mayank’s injury was highlighted by head coach Justin Langer, who expressed optimism about the bowler’s potential playoff comeback but also acknowledged the challenges posed by the injury. Langer stated, “No, we’ll be praying that he can play, hopefully, in the playoffs, but I’m a realist as well. It’ll be probably difficult for him to get up for the back-end of the tournament.”
Further details emerged regarding the nature of Mayank’s injury, with Langer confirming a small tear similar to his previous one. The coach emphasized the unfortunate reality of injuries for young fast bowlers, citing his own experience and offering reassurance about Mayank’s rehabilitation process.
Mayank’s journey in IPL 2024 started on a high note, with impressive performances earning him Player-of-the-Match awards in his first two matches. However, his campaign took a downturn as he battled abdominal pain, leading to several missed games before his return against Mumbai Indians.
During the match against Mumbai Indians, Mayank’s struggle with pain resurfaced, forcing him to leave the field prematurely. Despite concerns about his readiness to play, Langer assured that Mayank’s rehabilitation had been exemplary before his comeback.
In his limited appearance against Mumbai Indians, Mayank showcased glimpses of his talent, bowling with speeds touching 150kph. However, he primarily operated in the 140-147kph range before being sidelined once again.
LSG, currently placed third in the IPL 2024 table with six wins from 10 games, face uncertainty regarding Mayank’s absence for the remainder of the league stage and potentially the playoffs. Their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders at home will be crucial as they aim to secure a playoff berth amidst mounting challenges.
