Indian cricket star Virat Kohli’s recent statement expressing his desire to visit Pakistan has sparked significant discussion on social media platforms. Kohli’s words have been warmly welcomed by Pakistani fans, highlighting the cross-border camaraderie often witnessed in cricket.
Responding positively to Kohli’s statement, former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi praised Kohli as an ambassador for his country. Afridi stated that he had anticipated such a statement from Kohli and thanked him for his sentiments. Inviting Kohli to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and to visit with the Indian team, Afridi emphasized the positive impact of such visits on cricketing relations between the two nations.
“Virat Kohli’s statement showed that such cricketers are the ambassadors of their country. I had expected the same kind of statement from Virat Kohli. Thank you so much, Virat. We are waiting for you to come to Pakistan and play in PSL or with the Indian team. It would be good if you came with the Indian team,” Afridi was quoted as saying by Odisha TV.
Cricketing ties between India and Pakistan have been strained for years due to political issues and terror incidents, as per India’s perspective. While Pakistan has made efforts to bridge the gap, including their visit to India for the World Cup 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been criticized for its perceived reluctance.
Despite the lack of bilateral series, there is shared eagerness for more cricket encounters between the two nations. The upcoming India-Pakistan match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is eagerly anticipated by fans on both sides.
In other cricket news, in IPL 2024, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a crucial victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to enter the playoffs, adding to the excitement in the cricketing world.
