Uganda created history in Guyana on Wednesday as Uganda registered their first ever victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a three-wicket triumph over Papua New Guinea.
The 9th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup played at Providence on Wednesday was won by Uganda by three wickets as they chased the target of 78 runs with 10 balls remaining.
Uganda had won the toss and elected to field first. Papua New Guinea were all out for 77 runs with Hiri Hiri making the most 15 runs off 19 balls with extras being the second most run scorer with 13 runs.
Nsubuga conceded four runs in the match which was the fewest by any bowler in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup to have bowled their full allotment of four overs. The previous fewest was seven runs South Africa quick Anrich Nortje conceded in the Proteas’ match against Sri Lanka earlier in the tournament.
Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta, Juma Miyagi and Frank Nsubuga all registered two wickets each in their name with Brian Masaba registering a wicket in the match.
Uganda chased the target of 78 runs in 18.2 overs to create history as they registered their first ever victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Riazat Ali Shah with a four scored 33 runs off 56 balls to be the highest run scorer for the team.
Alei Nao and Norman Vanua took two wickets each for Papua New Guinea with Chad Soper and Assad Vala taking a wicket each in the match.
