The upcoming BBL 14 season is set to captivate cricket fans with a thrilling schedule from December 15 to January 27. This year’s Big Bash League promises uninterrupted action, with every club playing in front of their home fans during the first eight days. The season opener will be a historic moment for the Perth Scorchers, the league’s most successful club, as they host the Melbourne Stars at Optus Stadium on December 15. This marks the first time the Scorchers will launch the tournament on their home turf.
Sydney Thunder fans are in for a treat with a double-header week, starting with a match against Adelaide Strikers in Canberra on December 17, followed by a highly anticipated Sydney Smash against the Sixers on December 21. The first Super Saturday will feature the Hobart Hurricanes facing the Perth Scorchers at Blundstone Arena and the Thunder battling the Sixers at ENGIE Stadium.
Reigning champions Brisbane Heat will make their first home appearance at the Gabba on December 22 against the Adelaide Strikers. Fans can look forward to 44 days of uninterrupted cricket, with matches scheduled every night except December 24-25, including six double-headers.
Broadcasting rights have been secured by the Seven Network and 7plus, with 34 games, including the finals, broadcast live. Every match will also be available on Foxtel and Kayo Sports. A rematch between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers is slated for December 29.
Australia’s Test players are expected to participate in at least three regular-season matches post the fifth Border-Gavaskar Test on January 7. Test regulars like Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, and Mitch Marsh have BBL contracts, with other players potentially joining.
The season will culminate in a finals series following last year’s format, starting with the Qualifier on January 21 and concluding with the Final on January 27. The introduction of marquee games and the inclusion of international stars like Sam Billings, Colin Munro, Tom Curran, and Chris Jordan ensure that BBL|14 will be a blockbuster event.
Cricket Australia’s general manager of Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson, expressed optimism for a brilliant schedule, highlighting uninterrupted action and marquee games for fans. Tickets will be available to the public from late August.
