David Miller celebrated his 500th T20 match in style, scoring an unbeaten 71 from 34 balls for Barbados Royals against Guyana Amazon Warriors in Guyana. This achievement makes Miller the first South African to join the exclusive 500 T20 match club, which includes Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Shoaib Malik.
Miller is also the first specialist batter to reach this milestone, while the other members of the 500 club have been recognized as allrounders during significant parts of their careers. His T20 journey has spanned 16 years and 172 days since his debut in 2008. At 35 years and 107 days old, Miller is the second youngest to reach this landmark, behind Pollard, who achieved it at 32 years and 297 days.
Miller has amassed 10,678 T20 runs by his 500th match, making him the third player in the 500 T20 match club to cross 10,000 career runs, following Shoaib Malik (12,287 runs) and Pollard. Only Shoaib Malik took longer to reach 500 T20s, playing his 500th game at 41 years old. In contrast, Sunil Narine reached the milestone the fastest, doing so in just 13 years and 70 days span.
The majority of the 500 T20 match club members built their careers in franchise leagues, not internationals. Miller has played 125 T20 internationals, just one more than Malik, and more than West Indian legends like Dwayne Bravo and Pollard.
Miller’s achievement solidifies his place among the T20 elite, marking a historic milestone for South African cricket. With Ravi Bopara, Alex Hales, and Rashid Khan nearing 500 matches, Miller is now part of an exclusive group that defines modern T20 cricket. Sophie Devine is the only woman player to cross 400 T20 matches mark.
