The West Indies have released T20I squad list for the forthcoming series against England. Among those chosen back are Akeal Hosein, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, and Andre Russell. The series will be launched this weekend with the first two matches in Barbados on Saturday and Sunday.
The four were absent during the last T20I series between the two teams because of personal reasons. Hetmyer had also been recalled for the ODI series against England and now returns to the T20I fold.
The rest of the squad is similar to the one that lost 2-1 to Sri Lanka, with Alick Athanaze, Andre Fletcher, Fabian Allen, and Shamar Springer falling out of favor in the lineup. Terrance Hinds, the uncapped all-rounder, retains his place, and Matthew Forde is included as a back-up to Alzarri Joseph, who has been suspended for the next two games in conjunction with his decision to walk off the field during third ODI.
Romario Shepherd has been cleared to play despite picking up a cramp injury forcing him off mid-over in the final ODI vs England.
Head coach Daren Sammy felt the team was deep and had enough experience to handle the challenge against a powerful England side. “We have a settled T20 team with a lot of experienced players. It’s going to be tough to pick the XI, but I believe in this squad’s ability to win games,” said Sammy.
The series will then head to St. Lucia after the Barbados games, and the West Indies will announce their final playing eleven for the last games.
