Bangladesh will miss the experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim in their two-match Test series against West Indies, scheduled to start on November 22. He has been diagnosed with a fracture on his left index finger while keeping wickets in the first ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah. His medical report has said it will take four to six weeks for his recovery and, thus, he will miss the Test leg of the tour.
The team management has not confirmed if Rahim will return for the ODI series against the West Indies, which will take place after the Tests. His return will depend on his progress in recovery. Rahim resigned from T20I cricket and is still integral to the Bangladesh ODI setup.
Injury saw Rahim bat further down the order in the Afghanistan ODI before being ruled out of the series, but he should be able to report back to Bangladesh soon to rehabilitate.
The Bangladesh Test squad, on the other hand, has been finalized. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the side while keeping wickets will be done by Litton Das. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named vice-captain. There’s also some young talent in the group including Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan along with some of the seasoned bowlers, Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed.
This series is a vital one for Bangladesh as it would look to have some major improvements in the longer version. The two Tests would be played at Antigua and Jamaica, while three ODIs and three T20Is have been scheduled after that.
