This summer, the Dream11 Super Smash is diving into nostalgia with a twist of modern flair. All 12 teams will wear retro kits that pay homage to New Zealand cricket’s vibrant era of the 90s and early 2000s. The initiative not only honors the past but also highlights how far the T20 format has come in the last two decades.
A Nod to the 90s
The retro kits, inspired by the iconic Cricket Max and domestic one-day competitions, were designed in collaboration with NZC’s apparel partner, Dynasty Sport. These bold designs represent an era when cricket was transitioning into a more dynamic and entertaining spectacle. The launch, held at the Cello Basin Reserve, emphasizes Super Smash’s commitment to innovation while celebrating its rich heritage.
Stacey Geraghty, NZC GM of Marketing & Communications, shared how the initiative allows fans to reflect on T20’s evolution.
“The popularity of T20 cricket continues to grow globally, and so does New Zealanders’ interest in the Dream11 Super Smash,” Geraghty said. “We’re sure the modernized retro shirts will spark great memories and provide something new for younger fans.”
James Marshall’s Nostalgic Journey
Northern Districts stalwart James Marshall reminisced about his early days in cricket, expressing fondness for the retro designs.
“The retro shirts bring back some great memories. Cricket was semi-professional back then, and it’s great to see its progress on the world stage,” Marshall said. “The fearlessness of young cricketers today is inspiring, and I can’t wait to see them in action.”
Where and How to Get the Retro Kits
Fans can purchase the retro shirts through Dynasty Sport, with a pre-Christmas shipping deadline of December 16th. They will also be available through the six NZC Major Associations and at Super Smash match venues throughout the season.

- Opening Double-Header: Auckland vs. Northern Districts at Seddon Park
- Total Matches: 64 games, including 32 men’s and women’s double-headers
- Venues: 10 locations across Aotearoa New Zealand
- Broadcast: Free-to-air on TVNZ+ and TVNZ DUKE, with Grand Finals on Sport Nation
