Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) wrapped up their SA20 Season 3 campaign in style with a nail-biting 11-run DLS victory over Joburg Super Kings (JSK) at Wanderers on Saturday. While DSG’s journey in the tournament ends here, JSK will now shift their focus to a crucial Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Eastern Cape at Centurion on February 5.
Klaasen’s Record-Breaking Knock Powers DSG to 173/4
DSG’s innings revolved around a sensational unbeaten 76 off 47 balls from Heinrich Klaasen, who became the first batter to surpass 1000 runs in SA20 history. Klaasen’s explosive batting included six sixes and three boundaries, sending the visiting fans into raptures.

He built two vital partnerships, first with Kane Williamson (22 off 24 balls) for 64 runs and later an *unbeaten 70-run stand with Wiaan Mulder (30 off 23 balls)**. Their efforts propelled DSG to a competitive 173/4.
For JSK, Lutho Sipamla (1/12 in 4 overs) stood out with a disciplined spell, dismissing Australian powerhouse Marcus Stoinis early in the innings.
Rain Alters the Chase, DSG Bowlers Hold Their Nerve
JSK began their chase steadily, reaching 31/1 in 3.1 overs before rain interrupted play at 7:45 PM. After a 75-minute delay, the match resumed at 9 PM with a revised target of 147 in 16 overs under the DLS method.
However, the hosts struggled to find rhythm, with DSG’s Noor Ahmad (3/25) wreaking havoc. The Afghan leg-spinner spun a web around JSK’s middle order, leaving them in deep trouble.
Making his SA20 debut, DSG’s CJ King had a memorable moment when he dismissed England’s white-ball champion Moeen Ali, further denting JSK’s chase.
Ferreira’s Blistering Fifty Almost Turns the Tide
With JSK on the ropes, Donovan Ferreira turned up the heat with a blazing 51 off just 22 balls, smashing five sixes to bring his team back into the contest. He also recorded the fastest half-century of SA20 Season 3, reaching the milestone in just 21 deliveries.
With 17 runs needed off the final four balls, DSG’s Dwaine Pretorius showcased nerves of steel, dismissing Ferreira and Sipamla off successive deliveries to seal the win for the visitors.
JSK March to the Playoffs, DSG Bow Out on a High
Despite the loss, JSK remain in the title race, finishing fourth in the standings and earning a knockout clash against Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Meanwhile, DSG will take pride in ending their campaign with a spirited victory, offering their fans a glimpse of their potential heading into future editions.
