As the ILT20 final approaches, Dubai Capitals’ key batsman David Warner has expressed that his team wants to win the championship after having a great run of the season. Having won three matches against their last opponent, Desert Vipers, Capitals are eager to continue their success and win the much-desired trophy.
Reflecting on the team’s mindset, Warner highlighted the collective excitement from players, coaching staff, and franchise owners.
“There’s a lot of enthusiasm, from the background staff to the GMR owners and the players on the field. We came close last year, and this time we’re here to go all the way,” he said.
Despite the fact that Warner had won against the Vipers on several occasions, he was not taking anything for granted.
“Winning against them multiple times is great, but that can also be tricky. Momentum can shift quickly, and we need to ensure we stay focused.”
Opposition’s Challenges and Capitals’ Strategy
The Desert Vipers go into the final with several setbacks, with their captain nursing a hamstring injury and key all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga away on international duty with Sri Lanka. Warner acknowledged the loss but is not taking anything for granted about their opponents’ strong batting lineup.
“They are a powerhouse with the bat, so early wickets and disciplined bowling will be key for us.”
Warner stressed that the key to winning matches lies in fielding.
“We have been consistent with our batting, bowling, and chasing totals. Our bowlers have been phenomenal. Now, it’s about bringing the right energy, staying sharp on the field, and executing our plans.”
Afghan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib was instrumental for Capitals, with whom Warner is full of praise over his adaptability.
“Gulbadin has improved incredibly. He’s adjusted well to these conditions and his contributions have been invaluable. Hopefully, he delivers again in the final.”
Chances of Australia Winning the Champions Trophy
When asked about the upcoming Champions Trophy campaign without Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Warner was confident in the depth of the squad.
“Australia have a track record of performing in big tournaments. Regardless of who’s playing, they know how to win.”
The final showdown between Dubai Capitals and Desert Vipers of ILT20 has been scheduled on February 9 at 7:30 PM IST. When both the teams are after success, it definitely promises to bring a fantastic culmination to the league.
