0 Runs in Super Over: Bahrain Register Unwanted Record Against Hong Kong

In a stunning turn of events, the Bahrain national cricket team suffered a humiliating Super Over defeat against Hong Kong in the fifth match of the 2025 Malaysian tri-nation T20I series. The match, held at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on March 14, ended in a tie after both teams scored 129 runs in their allotted 20 overs. However, Bahrain’s batting completely unravelled in the Super Over, failing to score a single run.

Hong Kong’s off-spinner Ehsan Khan emerged as the hero, dismissing Bahrain captain Ahmer Bin Nasir and Sohail Ahmed for ducks in the decisive over. Chasing just one run to win, Hong Kong’s Babar Hayat sealed the victory with three balls to spare, sending his team into jubilation.

Earlier in the match, Bahrain’s bowlers had put up a commendable performance, restricting Hong Kong to 129-7. Rizwan Butt led the attack with two wickets, supported by Ali Dawood, Imran Anwar, and Abdul Majid. For Hong Kong, Shahid Wasif’s late surge of 31 runs proved crucial in setting a competitive total.

Bahrain’s chase mirrored Hong Kong’s struggles, as they limped to 129-8. Prashant Kurup (31) and Ahmer Bin Nasir (36) were the standout performers, but Yasim Murtaza’s three-wicket haul kept Bahrain in check. The tie forced the match into a Super Over, where Bahrain’s batting woes reached their peak.

Despite the loss, Bahrain finished the opening round atop the points table with six points from three wins in four matches. Hong Kong, meanwhile, secured their second consecutive victory by defeating Malaysia the following day, clinching the second spot in the standings.

The two teams will now clash again in the tournament final on March 17 in Kuala Lumpur, setting the stage for a high-stakes rematch.
