In the strange, staged world of cricket, where taped interviews and guarded responses are de rigueur, Pakistani spinner Sajid Khan is a refreshing exception—real, raw, and inadvertently comedic.
Sajid Khan reveals his passion, Gangster if not a cricketer!
In a recent interview on ARY News, the red-ball expert—famed for his influential performances and signature moustache—produced an answer that created ripples on social media. After being asked what profession he could have pursued if cricket hadn’t panned out, Sajid Khan didn’t hesitate: “Main gangster hota” (“I would have been a gangster”). The deadpan reply had the host—and eventually, the internet—rolling in laughter.
Though he may joke about a life of crime, Sajid’s numbers on the field are serious business. With 59 wickets in just 12 Test matches and an average of 27.28, he has quietly become one of Pakistan’s most dependable spin assets. But his gritty on-field demeanour sharply contrasts with his quirky, often self-deprecating personality off it.
And it does not end there. Remembering his daunting figure while playing a Test match against England in Rawalpindi, Sajid minimized the hoo-ha with self-deprecating humour. “I did not intimidate anyone,” he declared. “God simply endowed me with a face that frightens people—no matter even if I smile.”

It’s not all humour with the spinner, however. When talk turned to batting legends, Sajid was not afraid to heap praise where it was deserved. He referred to Pakistan skipper Babar Azam as “the best player in the world” and labelled India’s Virat Kohli “the best Indian player ever,” in a sportsmanlike tone that is sometimes lost in inter-border rivalries.
Sajid Khan’s swelling fan base is not because of his bowling returns or moustache machismo—it’s the quirky charm about him that does it. Among a sport teeming with pre-rehearsed responses and waxed-on characters, his honest approach is unique and welcome.
He hasn’t turned out to be a gangster yet, but Sajid Khan is definitely burgling hearts—and headlines—along his own unique path.
