The Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders by 6 wickets in their CPL match on Saturday, completing the double over their rivals. The win was a dress rehearsal for the two sides’ Qualifier 1 match on Wednesday.

The Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to field first. The Knight Riders got off to a poor start, losing Martin Guptill for 1, but Mark Deyal’s quick-fire 37 helped them to reach 49/2 at the end of the PowerPlay.

Chadwick Walton and Keacy Carty added a 59-run partnership for the third wicket, but Walton was dismissed for 25. Carty then went on to make a brilliant 83, but he was eventually stumped in the 19th over.

The Knight Riders finished on 176/8, which gave their bowlers something to work with.

The Amazon Warriors got off to a flying start in their chase, reaching 56/0 at the end of the PowerPlay. However, Saim Ayub fell immediately after the fielding restrictions were lifted, skying a delivery from Akeal Hosein.

Odean Smith then went on to make his best score of the CPL, a sparkling 44. He benefited from three drops on his way to his knock, which ensured that the Warriors only needed 60 runs from 44 balls with eight wickets in hand.

Shai Hope carried on his good form with an unbeaten 54, and he led the Warriors to victory with 10 balls to spare.

The win was a vital one for the Amazon Warriors, as it kept them in the hunt for the CPL title. They will now face the Knight Riders again in Qualifier 1 on Wednesday, with a spot in the final at stake.
