Amanda-Jade Wellington and Beth Mooney starred as Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers secured victories in WBBL 2026 on October 31.

Laura Wolvaardt’s impressive 70 and Amanda-Jade Wellington’s three-wicket haul powered Adelaide Strikers Women to a 21-run victory over Melbourne Stars Women, while Beth Mooney’s unbeaten half-century guided Perth Scorchers Women to a commanding nine-wicket win against Melbourne Renegades Women in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026–27 on October 31.

The two encounters produced contrasting victories as Adelaide Strikers defended a challenging 185/2 at Karen Rolton Oval, while Perth Scorchers chased down 137 in just 13.3 overs at the WACA Ground. Wolvaardt, Madeline Penna and Tahlia McGrath led Adelaide’s batting effort before Wellington claimed 3/28. In Perth, Georgia Wareham’s fighting half-century helped Melbourne Renegades recover from an early collapse, but Mooney and Sophie Devine made light work of the target.

Adelaide Strikers Beat Melbourne Stars by 21 Runs

Wolvaardt and Penna Power Strikers to 185/2

After Melbourne Stars elected to field first, Adelaide Strikers made a confident start through Laura Wolvaardt and Maia Bouchier.

The opening pair added 54 runs before Annabel Sutherland dismissed Bouchier for 30 from 21 deliveries. Wolvaardt continued to anchor the innings, combining with captain Tahlia McGrath to establish a strong platform.

The South African batter reached her half-century from 41 balls and eventually finished with 70 from 50 deliveries, striking nine boundaries. Her partnership with McGrath added 82 runs for the second wicket before Kim Garth provided Melbourne’s second breakthrough in the 18th over.

With Adelaide positioned at 136/2, Madeline Penna delivered a spectacular late assault.

Penna smashed 36 not out from just 13 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, scoring at a remarkable strike rate of 276.92. McGrath remained unbeaten on 43 from 36 deliveries as Adelaide added 49 runs across the final 17 balls to finish on 185/2 from 20 overs.

Garth was Melbourne’s most economical wicket-taking bowler with 1/27, while Charlie Dean conceded only 25 runs from her four overs.

Wellington’s Three-Wicket Spell Derails Stars’ Chase

Melbourne Stars began their pursuit of 186 positively, with captain Meg Lanning and Rhys McKenna putting together a 77-run opening partnership.

Lanning struck six boundaries during her 32 from 24 deliveries, while McKenna contributed an aggressive 40 from 31 balls.

However, Amanda-Jade Wellington changed the direction of the contest by dismissing Lanning in the ninth over. She followed with the wicket of Amy Jones for two, leaving Melbourne at 79/2.

Sophie Ecclestone then removed McKenna, and the Stars slipped to 92/3 in the 11th over.

Annabel Sutherland attempted to rebuild the chase, scoring 29 from 19 balls, but Wellington struck again to remove the dangerous all-rounder.

Melbourne’s hopes suffered another setback when Eleanor Larosa dismissed Dani Gibson and Charlie Dean in the 16th over, reducing the visitors to 127/6.

Naomi Stalenberg kept the scoreboard moving with 32 from 25 deliveries, but the required rate continued to climb.

The Stars eventually finished on 164/7 from 20 overs, falling 21 runs short.

Wellington was named Player of the Match for her decisive 3/28, while Ecclestone and Larosa claimed two wickets each.
