In a shocking turn of events, former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a sudden heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match, sending waves of panic through the sporting community. The 34-year-old, who had been leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, was rushed to KPJ Specialised Hospital after experiencing severe chest pain.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as Tamim, initially attempting to brush off the discomfort, was forced to leave the field. What followed was a dramatic medical emergency—team physios performed CPR before he was swiftly transported back to the hospital in critical condition.
Doctors revealed that Tamim had suffered a major cardiac episode, requiring immediate angioplasty to clear a blocked artery. Renowned cardiologist Dr. Moniruzzaman Maruf led the emergency procedure, which was declared successful.
“He arrived in a life-threatening state,” said Dr. Rajib Hasan of KPJ Hospital. “Thanks to rapid intervention, we stabilized him. He is now conscious and responding well.”

Tamim Iqbal’s heart attack sent shockwaves across Bangladesh, with fans, teammates, and officials flooding social media with prayers. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cancelled all scheduled meetings, with President Faruque Ahmed rushing to the hospital alongside Tamim’s uncle and former cricketer Akram Khan.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their heroic efforts,” said Ahmed. “Tamim is not just a player—he’s a symbol of resilience for our nation.”
Teammates Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah visited the hospital, while crowds gathered outside, awaiting updates. Tamim, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, had been in stellar form, smashing two centuries in the ongoing league.
With Tamim under 48-hour observation, doctors remain cautiously optimistic. The incident has reignited conversations about athlete health and the pressures of professional sports.
