Pakistan T20I Squad vs Sri Lanka
Pakistan have named a 15-member squad for the three-match series:
Sahibzada Farhan (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Khawaja Nafay (wicketkeeper), Maaz Sadaqat, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Shadab Khan and Sufiyan Moqim.
The squad represents a significant shift in Pakistan’s T20I setup.
Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf and former T20I captain Salman Ali Agha are not part of the squad for the Sri Lanka series, while Pakistan have placed greater responsibility on a younger group led by Farhan.
Sahibzada Farhan Named Pakistan T20I Captain
The biggest Pakistan storyline ahead of the series is the appointment of Sahibzada Farhan as T20I captain.
Farhan recently captained Pakistan at the 2026 Asian Games and has now been handed responsibility for the senior T20I side against Sri Lanka.
The change also sees Salman Ali Agha drop out of the T20I squad, although Salman remains part of Pakistan’s ODI plans for the upcoming tri-series involving England and Sri Lanka.
Farhan’s appointment gives Pakistan an opportunity to test a new leadership structure as the team begins looking towards its next phase in T20 cricket.
Sri Lanka T20I Squad vs Pakistan
Sri Lanka have also named a 15-member squad for the tour:
Kamil Mishara, Sineth Jayawardena, Kusal Mendis (captain), Lahiru Udara, Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Binura Fernando, Nuwan Thushara, Eshan Malinga and Dushmantha Chameera.
Sri Lanka Cricket noted that Chameera’s selection is subject to fitness.
Kusal Mendis to Lead Sri Lanka
Kusal Mendis will captain Sri Lanka in the T20I series.
The experienced wicketkeeper-batter heads a squad containing several established white-ball players including Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana and Nuwan Thushara.
Sri Lanka will be looking to challenge Pakistan in familiar subcontinental conditions while also testing combinations during a lengthy tour that continues beyond the T20I series.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka T20I Head-to-Head Record
Pakistan have historically held the advantage over Sri Lanka in T20 internationals.
Before this October series, the teams had played 30 T20Is, with Pakistan winning 18 and Sri Lanka winning 12.
| Team | Matches | Wins |
|---|---|---|
| Pakistan | 30 | 18 |
| Sri Lanka | 30 | 12 |
Their most recent T20I meeting came during the 2026 T20 World Cup, when Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs.
That recent history adds another layer of interest to the Rawalpindi series.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
All three T20Is will take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Keeping the complete series at one ground means both teams will have an opportunity to adapt as the three matches progress.
Conditions can still vary from match to match depending on the surface used, weather and evening dew, so conclusions from one match should not automatically be applied to the next.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka are already familiar with the venue from recent international cricket, making tactical adjustments between matches particularly interesting.
Players to Watch for Pakistan
Sahibzada Farhan
All attention will initially be on the new captain.
Farhan will need to balance his responsibilities as an attacking top-order batter with the demands of leading Pakistan’s new-look T20 side.
Saim Ayub
Saim remains one of Pakistan’s most naturally aggressive top-order options and can influence a game quickly during the powerplay.
Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar provides experience in an otherwise changing batting setup and remains capable of transforming a T20 innings when he gets going.
Hasan Nawaz
Hasan’s power-hitting gives Pakistan another aggressive option and he enters the series after a productive Asian Games campaign.
Shadab Khan
Shadab’s leg-spin, batting and experience make him an important all-round option, particularly in a squad missing several established senior names.
Naseem Shah
Naseem will be expected to provide pace and new-ball threat in Pakistan’s attack.
Players to Watch for Sri Lanka
Kusal Mendis
Mendis enters the series as captain and one of Sri Lanka’s most experienced batters.
Dasun Shanaka
The former captain brings significant T20 experience and power in the middle order.
Kamindu Mendis
Kamindu gives Sri Lanka flexibility and has developed into an increasingly important international batter.
Maheesh Theekshana
Theekshana’s mystery spin and ability to bowl during different phases of a T20 innings make him one of Sri Lanka’s key bowling threats.
Nuwan Thushara
Thushara offers Sri Lanka a different pace-bowling challenge with his slingy action and ability to operate at the death.
Why This Series Matters for Pakistan
The series represents much more than three bilateral T20Is for Pakistan.
A new captain has been installed, several established players are absent and younger cricketers have been given significant opportunities.
Pakistan therefore have the chance to assess:
- Sahibzada Farhan’s leadership
- New top-order combinations
- Younger batting options
- Spin combinations involving Shadab, Abrar and Sufiyan
- Pace depth beyond Pakistan’s established senior attack
- Players who could become permanent members of the T20I setup
The results will matter, but Pakistan’s team composition makes the longer-term development of this group equally significant.
What Comes After the T20I Series?
Sri Lanka’s tour does not end after the three T20Is.
Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England will subsequently contest an ODI tri-series from October 18 to 31, with matches in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Sri Lanka will then remain in Pakistan for a two-match Test series.
The first Test is scheduled in Rawalpindi from November 9 to 13, while the second Test will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from November 17 to 21.
