Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has joined Hobart Hurricanes ahead of the Women’s Big Bash League 2026–27 season.
The defending champions confirmed the signing on October 26, announcing Athapaththu as an overseas replacement for England international Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
Wyatt-Hodge has been ruled out of the tournament through injury.
Athapaththu Strengthens Hurricanes’ Title Defence
Athapaththu brings extensive experience from international and franchise T20 cricket.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder previously enjoyed an outstanding WBBL 2023–24 season with Sydney Thunder, scoring 552 runs and claiming nine wickets.
She was named Player of the Tournament for that campaign.
Hobart Hurricanes have also signed wicketkeeper-batter Kate Pelle, who scored 136 runs across four matches during the recent T20 Spring Challenge.
The two additions strengthen Hobart’s squad ahead of their opening WBBL 12 encounter against Melbourne Stars on October 29.
The Hurricanes will begin the season aiming to defend their Women’s Big Bash League championship.
